The Misfits

During middle school or maybe even high school people are always calling each other names. People judge each other by their appearance. The book that i enjoyed a lot is called The Misfits by James Howe. The Misfits is talking about a four friends with traits that people judges them on; too fat, too skinny, too tall, too gay. The story is basically about these four friends being forced to join in a school election. They need to come up with a party that people would like to vote for. So, they came up with a “No-Name Party”. During the election they talk about how people feel when they are being called by names.
Merlin and Me
I really enjoyed this book and I would definitely introduce this book to my friends. This book doesn’t just teach people how to be confidence of which you are but also teaches teenagers to not judge people from outside and calling them names.
Merlin and Me
Today is an ordinary day at Sunflower Trilingual School. I am in Teacher Hugh’s English class and he said that we are going to read a book called “King Arthur and the Round Table”. I was very excited because I heard that there is a cave on the top of the mountain behind our school. Some rumors said that it is the exact cave that Merlin the Wizard was trapped. So, I decided that after class I will go up there and find out.
Right after the class ends, I quickly went to the mountain with my friend Judy. Judy was terrified about all this; she doesn’t understand why I need to find out about Merlin so badly. I told her that Merlin is a Wizard with many magical powers and he can help us to make out wish come true if we rescue him from the cave.
Finally, we reach the top of the mountain. There was a creepy cave that has spider webs all over it. When we walk closer to the cave we heard a cold deep voice saying “Please help me… If you let me out I will make your wish come true.” I was very excited and I saw the lock and I saw the lock that was on the cave. It was a special lock that needs to be opened by key card. I took out my student ID and give it a try, strange thing is it worked. He came rushing out for some sunlight. He was old, tall, and dirty. He looked at us and said “You girls saved my life; I will give you each one wish.” Judy was really happy, because she had an enormous crush on the guy that lives next door. She was to go out on a date with the guy of her dream. Merlin looked at me and asked “What about you?” “I would like to have the ability to make every wish come true”, I said. “Are you sure?” Merlin asked. I told him that I am very sure and he put some spell on me. Judy and I said Thank you to Merlin and wished him a nice day.
On the way home, the guy that lived next door from Judy’s house came running and asked her out. She was very happy. I quickly ran home because I didn’t want my parents to find out that I went to the cave. I suddenly realized that I now have the ability to wish for anything. So, I wished that I could fly home. Right after wishing, I felt myself floating and after few seconds I was flying in the sky. I saw a lot of beautiful stars. When I reached home mom and dad was already home. When they saw me they were shouting at me and they grounded me. I was very angry and I went to my room and said “I wish I was dead.” Guess what happened to me?
The moral of this story is “Be careful with what you wish for.”
Loy Krathong
Loy-Krathong is a traditional festival, it is a festival that gives Thai people the opportunity to apologize to the river. During this day Thai people will dress up in their traditional costumes. They will also float a water lamp (Krathong) in the river. Thai people will cut their nails or hair and put it in the water lamp and float it away. They believe that it can give away bad luck. There will be candles and flowers in the water lamp for decoration. The krathong is either made by bread or trees because this can decrease pollution.
What my father means to me
My father is from Taiwan, he came to Thailand twenty years ago. He didn’t have a lot of education but I am proud of him. He works very hard for the family. To me he is like a teacher, a clown, and a friend. When other people’s children are in trouble the father might first shout & scold the child, but my father doesn’t scold me at all. When I am in trouble he will help me out and then he will start giving me a lecture about the mistakes that I made. I think this is a good way to teach me. If I’m in trouble already and I admit that it is my fault then why do you need to shout at me? I don’t like it when parents scold their children. Ever since I can remember, my father has taken care of me. When I have arguments with my sister and friends he will help me solve it. He will guide me and teach me lessons. I have a very cool father. I can share my secrets with him, for example crushes in school, or talk about boys with him. He is just like a friend. When anyone in the family is sad he will make fun of himself to make us laugh. It doesn’t matter if he just came home from a meeting or how stressed he is, he will still come home with a smile and tell us about his day.
“The Road Less Traveled”
Making a decision is always hard for me. I’m scared that I would regret my choice but in life there are always times that we all need to make a hard decision.
One day, my mom came home with STS’s school catalog and she wanted me to make a decision between continuing studying at an international school or trying an English Program school. At that point I couldn’t read or write any Thai, ao my mom really wanted me to learn Thai. I was really confused and worried because I didn’t know any Thai and it was a new environment for me. I was scared that I wouldn’t have any friends, but my mind kept telling me that I should learn Thai. So, I freaked out a little but at last I chose to study at STS. Luckily, I met a lot of kind and friendly teachers and friends. They supported me a lot. It was hard at first but sooner or later I could read Thai and had some close friends.
Making a decision may be difficult but you will learn a lot from your lessons. I chose the hard path and I don’t regret it because I’ve learned a lot of lessons which made me have some experiences that other people might not have.
The value of English to your future
As you can see there are many parents who want their children to learn English. This is because English is an international language. Many companies are looking forward to being worldwide.
I think English is very important to everyone in the future. If I can speak English it might be easier for me to get a job. I can also travel around the world using English, the bridge language, to connect with other people around the world. This will make me have friends from different countries and different races.
So, English is very important. If you can speak, write, listen and read English your life will be easier. English is useful when you are in a foreign country.
If I could have any superpower it would be…
Every super hero has different superpowers. They use their powers to fight crime and save the world, and very often these super heroes are an idol or a role model for little children and even adults. Since they’ve become an idol, people have started dreaming that they could have a power like super heroes do.
If I could have a super power, I think it would be teleportation or knowing the future. Teleportation would be very cool, because I could travel around in seconds. I could just snap my fingers them poof – I’m in school, or poof – I’m in Edward Cullen’s dressing room. That would be AWESOME! Knowing the future can be very useful sometimes. I could know what would happen if I made a decision. Or I could know all of the questions on my final exam and never fail an exam. That would be nice too, but then I wouldn’t be able to be surprised again. I think my superpower would be teleportation. It is better for me although I really want to know the future, too.
Having to choose one superpower is not so easy, because people are greedy. I think the most common power that people want is the power to have all the power they want. Would it be your power?
What did you do during the holiday?
During the winter break I had a lot of fun because I got to spend a lot of time with my friends. I had a mini school reunion, went shopping with Ja, and I went to Egypt.
At the reunion I met a lot of old friends and new friends. All of them are very kind. They all think that I’ve changed a lot. Actually everybody had become more mature. I had a lot of fun!
Ja and I went shopping at Platinum for clothes and cheerleaders’ costumes. At first we totally forgot about the costumes, we were only shopping for our own stuffs, but by the end of the day we bought all the things that we are suppose to buy including the costumes.
I went to Egypt for three days. It was really cold in the evening but steaming hot during the afternoon. I spent the first two days in Cairo went to the GIZZA pyramids, and then I went to Alexandria. It was very pretty. I stayed at a friends beach house. They had a horse, swimming pool, a huge garden, and a playground for children. I had a lot of fun there but I didn’t like the food at all. There was too much of meat. I missed Thailand and my friends a lot.
What will the world be like in 2010?
Hooray! It’s 2010, two years before the end of the world! Since the movie “2012” was shown, people have been thinking about the end of the world. I don’t believe that it’s going to be the end of the world because this is not the first time we have heard this kind of rumor. Who knew?
For me, I think 2010 will be a tough year because I am going to be in grade 11, which means I will have to be more mature and will have to think about college seriously. Some of my friends are graduating school, too. I don’t want them to go, but going to college is a good thing and I can’t stop them from doing what they want. 2010 is such a hard and stressful year! (>_<)
In 2010, the world will see a lot of inventions. For example, the Blackberry, many people are using it. Having new inventions is a good thing but it will also use up energy sooner. I really hope that Thailand is inventing something to decrease the pollution in Thailand, so more tourists will come to Thailand.
